Organic and Instrumental Synthesis
On life and form.
Organic and instrumental synthesis are closer to each other than either is to mixed synthesis, and they are simpler. We take them together.
- Interstitial Anatomy:
{iD ≡ iO ≡ iR ≡ iE}
Anatomy and physiology could be joined in more than one way. They stand at equal hierarchy, so symmetry (≡) is a candidate. They are also distant in kind, so concatenation (^) is a candidate. Neither quite fits. Interstitial anatomy is sophisticated, and lifeless. Interstitial physiology is a strong animating force, and formless. A lifeless structure and a formless force do not sit beside each other as a pair, and they do not merely co-occur. The force alters the structure. Physiology modulates anatomy.
- Organic Synthesis:
[I≢L → (I≡ ^ I≢)] → {iD ≡ iO ≡ iR ≡ iE}= oΣ - Instrumental Synthesis:
[C≡L → (C≡ ^ C≢)] → {iD ≡ iO ≡ iR ≡ iE}= iΣ
A body that discerns a threat is not Discernment in the abstract. It is discernment under a perdurability longing: Organic Discernment. A protocol that watches a metric is not Observation in the abstract. It is observation under a functionality longing: Instrumental Observation.
To mark which method is being animated, the full form accents the quadrant:
- Discernment:
{iD ← (iO ≡ iR ≡ iE)} - Organic Discernment:
[I≢L → (I≡ ^ I≢)] → {iD ← (iO ≡ iR ≡ iE)} - Observation:
{iO ← (iD ≡ iR ≡ iE)} - Instrumental Observation:
[C≡L → (C≡ ^ C≢)] → {iO ← (iD ≡ iR ≡ iE)}
The full form is honest, and heavy. Because a longing and a quadrant do not meet in any other context, a shorter form does not collide:
- **Organic Discernment (Simplified Form)**: I≢L → iD
- **Instrumental Observation (Simplified Form)**: C≡L → iO
Those shortenings are the tip of what organic and instrumental synthesis can do. Their implementations can wait. Mixed synthesis cannot: it is where the two longings occupy the same system.
