Interstitial Anatomy

On untouchable bodies.

The structure quadrants form a set similar to an attribute pair: {D ≡ O ≡ R ≡ E}. Each of the four holds equal weight. Shifting focus to one requires keeping its relation to the other three. So we use accentuation again — this time on the quadrants, not on the primary attributes.

These accentuations form a new set: {iD ≡ iO ≡ iR ≡ iE}.

• INTERSTITIAL ANATOMY: Set of concrete interstitial actions, composed of structure-quadrant accentuations.

The naming marks a cut we have been approaching since the quadrants. Discernibility is a potential state — one of four sides of an abstract interstitial design (the Structure Quadrants). A member discerning over a systemic element is a concrete action — performed by an agent with a specific interstitial method (Interstitial Anatomy). The capacity to know is not yet someone knowing. The same cut holds for the other three: observability is not observation, resolutivity is not resolution, operativity is not operation.

In analysis, the methods are used more often than the capacities. It helps that the term for the concrete action is the shorter one.

Inside Conciliatorics, discernment is enough. Outside it, the word has broader lives, so interstitial discernment is the safer name — “interstitial” as a surname. Within the family, John is enough; elsewhere, you may need John Smith. The same is true of observation, resolution, and operation.
